We took a few days off to get off the French coast, enjoy the sea and discover a new place. We decided to head to La Ciotat and from there visit as many Calanques (creeks) we could. I was not expecting much from this city but I was pleasantly surprised by the beauty and peaceful athmosphere of this town.
We rented an appartment on Airbnb with a great location on top of the hills right next to la chapelle de Notre Dame and on a 10 min walk from Les Calanques de Figuerolles.
It’s always nice to walk around and get lost in the narrow streets of any villages of the south of France ..
Calanque du Grand Mugel
It is not always easy to find the creeks and they are not really indicate. Les Calanque de Mugel are actually pretty easy; once you get to the larger creek you can stop there for a quick dip in the sea and or continue walking along the path to find the parc and the second creek.
Parc du Mugel
As I mentioned below, there is this pretty amazing park right between the two creeks. It is a fairly large free park and it offers wonderful views, a bamboo forest and other spots to enjoy the trees, flowers .. and get some shade !
Calanque du Petit Mugel
When you get off the park you’ll arrive straight to the small calanque.
View Point next to our appartment
Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Garde
We had the chance to be right next to the spot above with a great overlook at the calanque de Figuerolle but also within a 5 minute walk from the chapelle de Notre Dame which is the best place in La Ciotat to enjoy the sunset.
Calanque de Figuerolles
La calanque de Figuerolle is the one we saw from the top of the view point and it’s also one of the most popular !
